The four-question test
- How long must it look perfect? Under 24 hours indoors, fresh is safe. Past 48, fresh needs hydration mechanics or a refresh crew.
- How close will cameras get? Inside six feet, fresh wins visibly. Beyond that, high-grade faux is indistinguishable in photographs.
- Where is it? A Miami rooftop in July is 90°F with direct sun — hydrangea will collapse in under three hours; orchid, anthurium, and protea hold.
- Will it be used again? A wall used three times amortizes a faux build down to roughly a quarter of the fresh cost per event.
Cost, honestly
The rental line is why most brands with a recurring event calendar end up owning one custom wall and renting around it.
| Material | First event | Three events | Per-event cost across three |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh floral | $9,000–$12,000 | $27,000–$36,000 | $9,000–$12,000 |
| High-grade faux, custom build | $7,500 | $7,500 + 2 × $900 refresh/install | ~$3,100 |
| Faux rental | $2,500 | $7,500 | $2,500 |
Hold times by bloom, Miami conditions
| Bloom | Indoor, hydrated | Outdoor, 85–92°F |
|---|---|---|
| Orchid (phalaenopsis, dendrobium) | 5–7 days | 2–3 days |
| Anthurium | 4–6 days | 2 days |
| Rose | 3–5 days | 8–12 hours |
| Hydrangea | 2–3 days | 2–4 hours |
| Peony | 2–4 days | 4–6 hours |
| Preserved / dried | Indefinite | Weeks, fades in UV |
The hybrid that usually wins
Our default for a multi-day activation: faux as the structural field, fresh in the sightline band between four and seven feet where guests photograph, and a refresh visit on the morning of the highest-traffic day. It costs 15–25% above all-faux and holds like faux while reading as fresh.
Sustainability, without the greenwash
Fresh imported stems carry real air-freight emissions and end up as compost within a week. Faux is petroleum-based and permanent, which is a liability if it is used once and discarded, and an advantage if it tours for five years. The genuinely lower-impact choices are locally grown fresh in season, preserved botanicals, and faux pieces that are owned, stored, and reused. We store client-owned builds in our Kendall workshop for exactly that reason.
Frequently asked
- Can guests tell the difference between fresh and faux?
- At more than about six feet, in event lighting, and in photographs — generally no, if the faux is high-grade real-touch stock. Up close, and by smell, yes. That is why we place fresh in the touch-and-photograph band and faux everywhere else.
- Is faux cheaper than fresh?
- Per event, faux is 20–35% cheaper on a comparable single build, and 60–75% cheaper once the same piece is used three times. Renting an existing faux wall at $2,500 versus a $9,000+ fresh wall is the widest gap.
- Do you rent fresh installations?
- No. Fresh work is built for your event and struck afterwards. Faux structures are the rentable inventory, and client-owned custom builds can be stored and re-installed by us for later events.
