Weight is the whole conversation
Budget 2–4 lbs per square foot for a faux or dried canopy, and 4–6 lbs for a dense fresh installation with water sources. A 300 sq ft fresh canopy can therefore exceed 1,500 lbs — well past what most drop-ceiling grids and decorative beams will take.
We provide a weight and rigging plan for the venue's approval before anything is fabricated. If a studio has not asked what your ceiling is made of, they are not planning to hang anything safely from it.
