St. Augustine is a destination market and everything about the logistics follows from that. It is roughly a five-hour drive from our Kendall workshop, usually paired with Orlando on the same run, and it is small enough that the venue list is genuinely finite — which is an advantage. We can design against a specific courtyard, a specific ceiling, a specific loading rule, rather than against a category.
The other defining fact is age. This is the oldest continuously occupied European-founded city in the United States, and most of the venues worth building in are protected in some way: coquina walls, original plaster, historic timber, gardens with specimen trees and root zones that cannot take a truck. Nothing gets drilled, nothing gets hung from original fabric, and every structure is freestanding and self-ballasted.
So the work here is quieter and more architectural than a convention build. The building is already the spectacle. Our job is usually to frame a doorway, hold a ceremony line, or make a courtyard read at night — not to compete with a four-hundred-year-old wall.

Spring wedding season

Booking window: Six to nine months. Peak spring Saturdays at the named historic venues go first.
Nights of Lights

Booking window: Book by September so fabrication and the northbound trip are scheduled before the season starts.
Autumn wedding and event season

Summer heat and storm season

Logistics for a St. Augustine install
Crew and travel
Roughly five hours by road from Kendall, so this is a planned trip rather than a delivery. The crew usually stays overnight and we prefer to pair the date with an Orlando install in the same week. The quote names the vehicle, the crew size and the accommodation openly — there is no hidden travel margin, and there is no local address we can pretend to hold.
Lead time
Five to eight weeks for a custom build, and longer for peak spring or autumn Saturdays because the venues, not our workshop, set the pace. Historic-venue approvals add time at the front of the process; the earlier we can submit a method statement, the fewer late design changes there are.
Fabrication and sourcing
Structures are welded, dry-fitted and finished in Kendall and travel north complete. Fresh product is split: durable and structural material travels with us in a conditioned vehicle, while the most delicate stems are sourced closer to the date through Jacksonville-area wholesale so they arrive with their full life ahead of them.
Permits and venue approvals
This is the most rules-heavy market we work in. Historic venues prohibit fixings into original fabric, several sites require conservation or curator sign-off, the Castillo grounds are federally administered, and St. George Street is pedestrian-only with pre-dawn cart access. Downtown parking and vehicle permits must be arranged in advance, not negotiated on the morning.
Climate and floral specification
North Florida is genuinely cooler than Miami — a January evening ceremony can sit near freezing, which shocks tropical material, while July delivers heat, humidity and a near-daily afternoon storm. Coastal sites add salt and steady wind. We specify by season here more than anywhere else: temperate garden material in the cool months, hardier structural work in summer, and ballast for anything outdoors year-round.
St. Augustine questions, answered honestly
Do you charge travel to St. Augustine?
Yes, and it is itemised. The quote shows the vehicle, the crew, the drive time and the overnight accommodation as separate lines. It is usually cheaper if the date can be paired with an Orlando install in the same week, and we will tell you when that is possible.
Can you install inside a protected historic venue?
Yes — everything we build for those rooms is freestanding and self-ballasted. Nothing is drilled, nailed, taped or hung from original fabric, floors and walls are protected during load-in, and we submit a written method statement for curator or venue approval before the design is final.
How far ahead should we book a spring wedding?
Six to nine months. Spring Saturdays at the Lightner, the Treasury and the White Room are the most contested dates in the market, and historic-venue approvals need runway. If your date is set, holding it early costs nothing.
What happens if a storm hits our outdoor ceremony?
We agree a decision threshold and a deadline in writing when the contract is signed — who calls it, by when, and what the indoor version looks like. Between June and September we design outdoor work so a genuine indoor plan already exists rather than being improvised on the day.
Can you do a Nights of Lights holiday program for a shop or restaurant?
Yes, if we start in September. The season runs from mid-November into January, so fabrication and the northbound trip have to be scheduled before it opens. Downtown load-in is pre-dawn and on foot along St. George Street, which we plan for rather than discover.
Is it colder there than Miami?
Noticeably, and it changes the flowers. St. Augustine gets real winter nights, so tropical material that is perfectly safe in Miami in January can be damaged at an evening outdoor ceremony here. We specify temperate garden material in the cool months and say so in the proposal.
